Overview
For me, creating something is an act of self-remedy and therapy, as well as a challenge. It’s an act of observing and preserving personal events combined with subtle details of odd, eccentric, or humoristic elements. Even though I often refer to pop and mass culture, my initial ideas are always coming from a place of serene contemplation.
Coming from a graphic design background, I did not receive a formal art study but I am familiar with a lot of it. So I treat each work as a study process, that is why I use and combine different kinds of media to reach the desired look and figure things out as I go along. By practicing with mixed media, I can experiment and understand the character of each media technique.
Inspiration comes from many places, stealing bits and pieces from Sunday morning cartoons, to words spoken in movies or pretty book titles, combined with personal thoughts, feelings, and experiences. I piece them together on a piece of paper or canvas.
At the end of the day, I create because I feel like there is too much inspiration in the world. Everyday we are flooded with new information and beautiful images, inspirational people doing what they want to do without worries. I feel like it would be such a waste not to create something out of that. I thrive on being challenged to the point of frustration to get something right and the feeling of making progress.
